When I began working on WOTOG, I didn’t realize how much of a passion project this would become for me...On the flip side of that, really wanting to do a deep dive into this project to make sure it’s as awesome as it can be means that I need some more time on it. I don't have an updated release date for you guys yet, but I will let you know as soon as I do! ...I think it’s going to be something really special (in my humble opinion, of course!), and even though it’s now a ways off, I can’t wait to share it with you all!

–Sarah Maas Newsletter, April 2019

The World of Throne of Glass is a supplementary book in the Throne of Glass series. It will cover languages, geography, religions, and history, among other topics. Due to Sarah having a baby, as well as other commitments, the release has been postponed several times from its initial October 30th, 2018 date. It is currently expected to be released sometime in mid-late 2020.

After its first postponement, World of Throne of Glass was pushed back to September 3rd, 2019, and finally to October 1st, 2019. However, in an April 2019 newsletter Sarah explained that her commitment to ensuring The World of Throne of Glass is as comprehensive as possible meant that more time would be needed to work on it. This means that, while the October 2019 release date still appears on most official vendor sites, the current release date for World of Throne of Glass is unknown, pending confirmation by the author herself.[3] According to comments made by Sarah while on tour, a general window of mid-late 2020 is to be expected.

Trivia

  • During her Kingdom of Ash tour, Sarah confirmed that the book will be an encyclopedia of the series written ten years after the last book, giving us glimpses of where the characters are at that point.[5]
  • Sarah also mentioned that The World of Throne of Glass will be chronicled by "a cranky, old librarian" who interviews different characters after the war in Kingdom of Ash. There will be illustrations, interview snippets, etc.
