Orcus is one of the three Valg Kings and the elder brother to Erawan and Mantyx. He is known to be the most powerful Valg King.
Biography[]
3000 years ago, Orcus and his brothers started a war on the world they wished to conquer. This war lasted for a thousand years and ended with the Valg Kings destroying the world, reducing it to a land of ash and darkness where their many children could rule with them. They ruled for another thousand years, until a Valg Queen appeared: Maeve. Orcus and his brothers came to desire her and courted her, but ultimately she chose to marry Orcus as he was the eldest and most powerful.[1]
Eventually, Maeve, discontent with her life, found a way to travel between worlds through Wyrdgates and escaped to Erilea with her handmaidens while Orcus was with his brothers. Furious at her disappearance, Orcus discovered how she had escaped and carved three slivers from the Wyrdgate she'd used; these were the Wyrdkeys, which Orcus distributed amongst his brothers and used to control the Wyrdgate and travel between worlds. He, his brothers and their armies then began searching for Maeve, destroying various worlds in their search until they came across Erilea and began their war to conquer it. Maeve, who did not want to return, had disguised herself as Fae and procured the Fae armies through trickery; they defended her against the Valg invaders and Orcus failed to recognise her.[1]
Maeve learned of the Wyrdkeys and used her knowledge of the Valg armies to sneak into a war camp and steal them. She used them to send Orcus and Mantyx back to the Valg homeworld, but Brannon Galathynius took them from her before she succeeded in banishing Erawan. Orcus's youngest brother was later sealed away in Morath after waging a second war to retrieve the Wyrdkeys and bring his beloved brothers back.
Personality[]
As with all Valg, Orcus is cruel and sadistic and delights in torturing others. He does appear to care for his brothers, however.
Powers and abilities[]
- Immortality: As Valg royalty, Orcus possesses true immortality that allows him to live for millennia without fading as the Fae do.
- Umbrakinesis: Orcus presumably possesses the ability to manipulate darkness and shadows as Erawan does, though possibly to a higher degree.
- Mind Manipulation: Orcus may possess the ability to alter people's minds and memories as Maeve can.
