The Assassin and the Desert[]
Celaena recalls the meeting with Arobynn Hamel in which she explained what she and Sam did to free the slaves in Skull's Bay. A furious Arobynn summoned Tern, Harding, and Mullin into the room, then commanded Harding to close the office door. Tern and Mullin followed Arobynn's orders to restrain Sam; Harding stood in front of them and threw his arm in Sam's path when Sam began struggling as Arobynn beat Celaena.
The Assassin and the Empire[]
Celaena hears Tern, Harding, and Arobynn discussing an apparent retaliatory strike against Ioan Jayne and Rourke Farran to avenge Sam, who had accepted a contract to kill Farran but was caught and killed by the crime lord instead. Harding observes that the crime bosses will anticipate retribution for Sam's death from the Assassin's Guild. Arobynn proposes to kill Jayne and Farran in their beds, but Harding argues that reaching the second floor will be no easy task and suggests that the assassins enter via the second-floor window. Tern disagrees, but Arobynn asserts his leadership and instructs them to have the other assassins prepared and secretive about their mission.
Unbeknownst to Celaena, the discussion had more than likely been staged, as its later revealed that Arobynn had in fact betrayed Sam to Farran and manipulated Celaena into carrying out an equally doomed mission of revenge, culminating in her imprisonment in Endovier.
