The Demi-Fae are a mix of a Fae and a Human. Demi-Fae are generally seen as lesser and are not welcomed in the Fae city in Wendlyn, Doranelle, unless they prove themselves.

Abilities[]

“Demi-Fae” is a very loose term. It can mean that one is half Fae (in the sense that one of their parents was human, the other Fae) or that one ‘simply’ has Fae ancestry (like most of the Ashryver’s, except for Aedion with Gavriel as a full blooded parent and a mother with fae ancestry).

The general rule thereby is: the more Fae blood you get (the higher the quantity), the more likely it is that one inherits Fae traits (like the settling, senses, shifting, magic, grace, etc.). But that doesn’t have to be, it simply increases the probability of it (f.e. even some full blooded fae don’t have magic. If you’re a full blooded fae, only the second form; settling physical attributes like increased senses are assured).

With Demi fae one never knows what fae attributes they will get (one of the best examples would be the Demi-fae from Mistward and how many different mixes of fae attributes they got). For example some have some of the physical attributes (senses like enhanced smell, hearing or physiological traits like pointed ears(sharp teeth), some can mate, some have magic, some have a second form and some can settle.

Immortality[]

Some Demi-Fae can still obtain Fae immortality by going through the Settling.

Known Demi-Fae[]

The characters explained:[]

  • Aelin is the latter type of Demi-Fae: (is of fae descent, mother was Demi fae of fae descent and her father was a human of very distant fae descent). She has: the secondary form (her human form is her animal form), Magic and a mate.

The reason why Aelin still has magic, albeit not having a high quantity of fae blood:

Two powerful bloodlines met. Mab and Brannon and Mala. And that the Gods needed a person with a lot of magic in order to successfully forge the lock.

1. The reason for Aelins secondary form, water magic is her ancestry from Mab. She is the closest Fae ancestor that she has.

2. The reason for her strong fire magic is her relation to Brannon and Mala, because they are the only ancestors that she has with fire magic. This magic comes from Rhoes ancestors who were predominantly human. It’s a huge surprise that this magic rang true.

In conclusion, Aelin’s Fae blood quantity is not very high; but the ‘blood quality’ her blood quality is high.

The reason why her inheriting the settling was doubted for a long time was: Aelin herself did not have a lot of Fae blood (Mab=100%; Aelins grandmother=50%, Evalin=25%, Aelin=12,5% ) her already having magic and being able to shift is somewhat a miracle. Now also being able to settle, and none of her other ancestors settling, simply made it relatively unlikely.

  • Aedion is the former type of Demi-Fae: (62,5% fae bloodm father was 100% Fae and his mother being of Fae descent. She had 25%, Aedion=12,5% from her + 50% from Gavriel). He has: the physical attributes (increased senses [sight, smell, taste, hearing, touch]), can mate, and will most likely settle.

Why was everyone so sure that he would settle/why was it hinted that he would but not Aelin:

1. Again it goes back to the quantity of the percentage of Fae blood, of which Aedion has a lot (even more so than the ‘average’ Demi-Fae).

2. He already displayed all of the other physical Fae traits so it was logical to assume that he would also get that physical attribute

3. And on top of that, his ‘Fae blood quality’ was relatively high (in the sense of Gavriel and Mab both being very powerful individuals.)

  • Lorcan: is also the former type of Demi-Fae: (50% Fae: father was fae and human mother). He has all of the physical attributes (senses, strength, speed) and magic but no animal form.

The reason for being so extra powerful (magic wise) comes from him being blessed from Hellas, a god.
