Just to let everyone know: Cairn means “pile of rocks” in Icelandic. He really is a worthless piece of junk.
Also, I feel like “No Body, No Crime” by Taylor Swift is a perfect song to portray Aelin’s former life as an assassin.

Empire of storms, chapter 54, Manon’s pov ⬇️
Read passage 3 that begins with: The queen was mostly quiet… Read it slowly
Manon knew. Manon knew they were mates, even before meeting with Maeve’s armada or hearing it from Maeve herself.
”…her MATE scouting overhead,…”
She knew.
Btw I’m reading The Part rn.😭😭😭😭 poor Aelin😭😭😭😭 Why does it hurt more for everytime you read it…..
I'll go first:
I didn't really like that Rowan killed Cairn. I hated Cairn with all my being, but I feel that Rowan shouldn't have been the one who killed him. I would've preferred if Aelin would have killed Cairn because all he did was towards her and not towards her mate.
Also, be respectful! If someone had an opinion you don't agree with, don't be mean! Everyone has different opinions on things
Friendly Reminder that Aelin had promised Darrow that she’d “raise an army of of assassins and thieves and exiles and commoners.”
Friendly Reminder that Aelin had fulfilled her promise to Darrow. That she had called in “old debts and promises” and “raised an army not just to challenge Morath…but to rattle the stars.”
Friendly Reminder that “every step she’d taken, every plan and calculation, every secret and desperate gamble…[was] For Terrasen. For them. For a better world.”
Friendly Reminder that she knew that one way or another she wouldn’t be able to lead her army.
Friendly Reminder that while her grand plan was all coming together in front of her friends and court she was in iron chains and locked inside an iron coffin with an iron mask on her face sailing overseas to Doranelle where nothing but torture at the hands of Cairn (a sadist worse than Farran) awaited her.
Friendly Reminder that “she did not believe they would come for her.”

I've been really busy with family dramas, school and all that jazz.
Ok so as stated before i've been busy with school, as I've had a lot of assignments just dumped on me ugh, but one of them was writing an essay for English. We got to choose our topics, so I did mine on why torture should be illegal in all countries (yes it happens whether legal or illegal in 141 other countries) cause you know I thought it would be interesting and it's something different compared to the basic "should school uniforms be made mandatory" and "should all students learn a foreign language" lol. So I had to do a lot of research on this and ended up writing way more than what I intended hehe. Anywaysssss it did turn out to be really interesting. As I was writing it I was like huh, SJM did a really good job of depicting torture in her writing so uh here are some points explaining the impacts and effects of torture and how it associates with tog/acotar:
**DISCLAIMER/WARNING: may be unsettling and or/ upsetting
(but really tho it's not that bad but just in case your sensitive about these things) may also be some spoilers **
Ok so yall know how Lorcan is basically pretty much emotionless at the start, well thats because people actually forget that torture impacts the inflicter as well, there are actually a bunch of side effects to it; one of them is becoming emotionally numb and suppressing their feelings from all the toxic levels of guilt and shame they experience, they also lose their sense of purpose and have destructive coping behaviours. Eventually their sense of right and wrong becomes blurred too. So that basically summed up the whole cadre lol, apart from the right and wrong, I'd say that's only Lorcan.
Think about why did Lorcan sent that message to Maeve on the beach with creepy darkness magic (idk what it is ok), he not only did it to protect Elide but he was also looking for her approval. Tortures are taught ideology, obedience, and to show no emotion. They are always looking for approval from their superiors (Lorcans technically was Maeve, but let's face it Elide was and is still his world) and they justify their actions, believing it is for a "good cause". He thought sending that message was the right thing to do even though it put everyone in danger. Even torturing and killing people for Maeve, he would have justified it saying it was for his kingdom. Ok yes, he and others might have enjoyed it, but that brings me to my next point.
Torturers tend to develop a different persona; dividing themselves into separate people, one a torturer, the other an ordinary family man, to help them cope with the intimate horror. They can also suffer from PTSD or vicarious trauma. So we start to see Lorcans "soft side" as the story develops (bruh u have no idea how many times I've had to write the word "develop" today lmao), and writing this essay got me thinking about all these characters; what were they like before? Were they the same or a different person entirely? Will they ever be the same again, trying to deal with what they had done? Some of the characters probably have and will always be warped and sadistic *cough* Cairn *cough*, but others like Rowan, for example, we see open up after turning against his superior. Not torture but az even has two personalities in a way; he can be reticent and timid, and then he can be funny, this would be from the trauma he experienced as a child, and his experience would've changed him.
This point is basically a hate rant about Cairn hehe. So basically most tortures are just ordinary people and the reason they enjoy it is because for them mutilating people and treating them like an animal makes them feel superior and is an escape from their lowly lives. Lemme break this down for u; this algae (i'm sorry algae is an inside joke with my friends lol) nothing and no one at home, then they go to "work" and they get to make people feel lower than them so they can feel better about themselves. So while Cairn was torturing Aelin he was most likely thinking to himself "look at me, making one of the most powerful fae and future Queen, weak and pathic, she can't hurt me, I have the power over her" FUCK YOU CAIRN GO DIE IN A DITCH OH WAIT HAHA I FORGOT... ROWAN SKINNED U ALIVE U MOTHERFUCKER AND YOU DESERVED IT I said what I said...
Side note: most self-medicate with alcohol or other substances, commit suicide, or have other co-occurring mental health issues.
Ok ok enough about the tortures, I think they've had enough empathy, now onto the victims. So remember when Feyre gave Rhysand a fake name which turned out to be this other girl and then she got killed yeah? Well, torture is ineffective and unreliable because the victim will say anything to stop the pain, and yes, I know what Rhysand did wasn't torture, but it promoted fear.
When Cairn was torturing Aelin, she did really well on not saying anything and on staying alive. Shane O'Mara, a Professor of Experimental Brain Research, said that "torture does not produce reliable information largely because of the severity with which it impairs the ability to think. Extreme pain, cold, sleep deprivation and fear of torture itself all damage memory, mood and cognition." He also stated that torture produces long-term neurological damage. Like when Rowan recused her she was "broken" GUYS, WE HAVE TO CONGRATULATE SJM ON HOW WELL SHE GRAPSED THE CONCEPT OF TORTURE AND CONNECTED IT TO HER CHARACTERS LIKE OMG I-
Welp that's it thanks for reading, I'm sorry if it doesn't make any sense lol. I wrote it really quickly and pulled most of it from my essay. Feel free to start any discussions on it or something idm.
I personally prefer the first poem I write but I still think I did a pretty good job on this one
Aelin: You do not yield! *punches iron box*
Aelin: You do not yield! *punches iron box*
Aelin: You do not yield! *punches iron box*
Aelin: You do not yield! *punches iron box*
Aelin: You do not yield! *punches iron box*
*iron box almost breaks*
Cairn: ...Maeve? Maeve, we got problems!
Cairn: I'm a badass!
Cairn: I can kill or hurt anyone I want to!
Cairn: No one can control me!
Cairn: No one can defeat me!
Rowan: *picks up tiny little knife*
Cairn: *wets his pants*
This is to make up for the last one😂😂
Friendly Reminder that Rowan literally skinned Cairn alive.
Go Hawk Boy!!!👊💥🦅
